Prevent yourself from UV Rays, Use Contact Lens
4 January 2008Everyone knows these days that ultraviolet radiation may be damaging to the eyes when out in strong sunlight for extended periods of time. This can be compensated fairly well by a good pair of sunglasses with lenses certified to give UV protection, which blocks out the rays. What some don’t know however is that UV rays are almost just as dangerous to the retina when it’s overcast. UV rays aren’t simply stopped by clouds, and symptoms as photokeratitis and pingueculum may still occur. In the long run, prolonged exposition to UV rays may also lead to cataracts, pterygium or even various eye cancers. This might pose as a problem, since most people aren’t ready to carry their sunglasses when it’s cloudy. Regular sunglasses also don’t cover the entire field of vision, but only the part straight ahead of you, which means that dangerous rays may still affect you.
If you know that you have eyes that are sensitive to UV rays, and you don’t want carry sunglasses even on less sunny days, there is another solution : contact lenses. Contact lenses cover and protect the entire eye, and they are comfortable to wear and simple to use. They also give you a perfect vision!
